Constance de la Vega served as Managing Attorney of the Legal Aid Society of Alameda County prior to accepting a teaching position at the University of San Francisco School of Law, where she teaches international human rights law. Her most recent work has focused on juvenile justice and the rights of the child. Her amicus brief was cited three times by the U.S. Supreme Court in Roper v. Simmons, which outlawed the execution of offenders who were minors when the crime was committed. More recently, Ms. de la Vega has focused on eliminating life without parole sentences for juveniles—an issue that will be taken up by the U.S. Supreme Court this coming term in Sullivan v. Florida and Graham v. Florida. Ms. de la Vega is also a founding member of Berkeley-based Human Rights Advocates and director of the Frank C. Newman International Human Rights Clinic.
